Sensei Steve Stubbs and Sensei Kerry Lee taught at Trent Shotokan Karate Club last night, where the ‘order of the day’ for the first hour was kata.
We were taught in two groups: a brown belt group and a junior group by two 2nd Dans at the top of their game. The detail was sublime, the learning experience profound and I have come away a better Karateka by some considerable margin.
Above, Sensei Kerry Lee recent 2nd dan with the KUGB teaching at Trent and Chorlton in Manchester, close friend and, it must be said – confident – spared no one. Anyone unwise enough to allow their attention to wander by as little as a distracted turn of the head?
“That will be ten press-ups … slowly!”
I name no names, other than to say I did no press-ups. In my view, not a second of the experience was to be wasted and I stayed focused throughout.
Our katas? Heian Nidan, Heian Yondan and Bassai Dai.
